Richard Cameron-Wolfe [Piano]
Pianist Richard Cameron-Wolfe specializes in music of the early 20th century and is particularly recognized for his Rudhyar and Satie offerings. He has championed Rudhyar’s music internationally, performing it in the United States, Sweden, Finland, The Netherlands, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Bulgaria. He is the only known pianist to have given uninterrupted solo performances (four) of Satie’s 24-hour Vexations. His first performance of the narrated Uspud (with Kathryn Philip in Cambridge, Massachussetts, November 1996) elicited the following response in the Boston Globe: “Philip read the hallucinatory tale of Uspud the infidel’s conversion, martyrdom and assumption into heaven with bone-dry irony, while Cameron-Wolfe played the minimalist chants and chorales with serene poise and absolutely exquisite voicing. [They] gave it a mesmerizing first performance, teetering between the sublime and the idiotic.”
